Using this approach, Brittany looks to the client as the expert in their own life experience and needs. She comes to the virtual therapy room as a nonjudgemental support who provides empathetic listening and understanding. She often says, "I'm not here to take your power, I am here to help you discover it!". Brittany strives to be her genuine, authentic self as she helps you address your concerns. As a result, she often finds that this way of being allows her clients to feel heard, at ease and supported on their therapy journey.

This approach focuses on the mindset that each person's actions are driven by the motivation to achieve five basic needs- freedom, power, fun, love & belonging and security. It poses that we are all trying to meet these needs through various behaviors, helpful and unhelpful. As a therapist, Brittany supports her clients to discover how to meet their needs in healthy, balanced, and effective ways. This often includes providing psychoeducation on healthy coping skills, examining wellness in a multitude of areas, and learning preventative strategies to prevent further distress or difficulty.

As the name suggests, this approach focuses on addressing the various cultural, racial, socio-economic, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation or social group factors that influence and affect ones life experience and mental health. Brittany believes sensitivity to what makes her client's unique helps them not only heal but also better understand their own values and goals.

Play is a child's natural way of learning and growing. By incorporating purpose-driven playfulness in sessions, Brittany can more effectively support her child, adolescent, and even (at times) teen clients in a way that speaks to them. After years of working inside schools, supporting minors with various access and support needs, I am passionate about making therapy accessible, age-appropriate, and enjoyable for everyone.

Additional Notes on Approaches Used:

While the approaches listed above are some of the main approaches Brittany uses, an Integrative Approach means that she doesn't just pick one and make a client fit into it .She uses a multitude of approaches in each therapy session to create a tailored approach. This allows her to adequately and effectively target client's unique treatment concerns and help client's achieve the outcomes they desire.

Some of the other supportive modalities Brittany incorporates into her approach, when appropriate, include:

  • Narrative Therapy

  • Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy (REBT)

  • Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT and regular CBT)

  • Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) OR Dialetical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
